Get Our Top 10 Honeymoon Planning Tips!

A couple of times a week we’ll get a phone call or an email from someone who is just looking for a price on a honeymoon or wedding package. Some have seen a place online that they think looks nice, others may have heard about a place that a friend or family member enjoyed.

Your honeymoon is one of the most important trips you’ll ever take. But all too often we see couples focusing on finding a good deal on a honeymoon without really taking into consideration if that resort or destination is  really a good fit for them.

There are a million intangibles to consider when planning a trip. What kind of people does this resort attract? Will there be other honeymoon & destination wedding couples there, or will there be a million screaming kids in the pool? What is the food like? If you’re a vegetarian or have special dietary needs, can they assist you, or will you spend the whole week living on chicken nuggets and Jell-o Jigglers? Which rooms offer the kind of privacy and amenities that you’re looking for? Does it really look as good in person as it does online?

Just as each couple is unique, each destination offers it’s own culture and lifestyle. Here at Bliss Honeymoons, we travel several times of year to check out the resorts that we recommend, and are able to match our clients with the right destination for them, based on factors that go far beyond the price tag. How? Well because unlike an online site that is happy to relieve you of your hard earned money without knowing the first thing about you, we take the time to get to know our clients before we start making recommendations. The results? You’ll wind up with a honeymoon or anniversary package that you’re thrilled with, rather than a pile of regret.

Our Favorite Foodie Anniversary Hot Spots!

| March 6th, 2014 | No Comments »

Love exploring flavorful regional cuisine that’s as tempting to the eyes as it is the stomach? Prefer dishes with a bit of a tropical flair? If you’re looking for an anniversary adventure that would make even the most discriminating foodie jealous, set your sights on the Caribbean.

Why the Caribbean?

If you and your honey are serious foodies, we have a few words that answer that question rather nicely: eclectic flavors, romantic beaches, world-class resorts and 5-star restaurants.

The major Caribbean destinations each have their own signature flavors with dashes of international flavors added in for good measure. While fish, chicken, pork, beans, rice and tropical fruits are mainstays, many of the islands have rather distinct ways of serving up fare courtesy of their European influences throughout history. And, if the food wasn’t enough of a reason to set sail for the Caribbean to celebrate your anniversary, the stunning landscapes, balmy weather and upscale resorts can surely sweeten the deal.

Not sure where to go in the Caribbean to mark a milestone anniversary while enjoying a tasty foodie adventure? Here are a few of our favorite places to help you get started planning:

  • Jamaica – This island nation is famous for more than its steel drum sounds. Put Jamaica on your anniversary itinerary and you’ll get to enjoy some of the most unique flavors found in the world. Be sure to try jerk anyway you can get it and don’t pass up the rum either – it’s some of the best in the world.
  • Puerto Rico – Dishes here deliver a true blending of Caribbean, American and Spanish flavors. If the tropical splendor of Puerto Rico fits your anniversary plans, consider a stop in San Juan. Here you’ll find some of the best restaurants found anywhere in the world.
  • St. Lucia – This island nation is famed for its stunning landscapes and world-class resorts, but it’s no slouch in the food department either. With its signature Creole flavors, St. Lucia keeps it spicy for sure. Be sure to sample the green bananas and salt fish while here. You can also tempt your taste buds with barbecued fish.
  • St. Martin – With its heavy Dutch and French influences, this island’s cuisine is truly tempting. St. Martin, in fact, is said to have hundreds of restaurants packed into its rather tiny 37 square miles. Don’t let the size food you though; St. Martin packs in the romance, wonder and flavors to make certain vacationers here have the time of their lives.

Ready to explore the flavors of the Caribbean? Be sure to check with our anniversary travel experts for more tips on where to go – and more importantly – where to dine!

Here are just a few of our favorite Caribbean destinations for food honeymooners:

  • The Cayman Islands – Offering an eclectic blend of British, Central American and island flavors, the dishes served up in restaurants here are the stuff legends are made of.
  • Jamaica – Noted not only for its beaches and incredible island music, Jamaica is a must-do for serious foodies who love Caribbean flair. Be sure to try jerk done the right way while here. Pork and chicken are the mainstays, but it’s possible to try beef, fish and even goat jerk style.
  • Puerto Rico – For a real international taste explosion, Puerto Rico is a must visit. With its American, Spanish and Caribbean roots, the foods here defy description. Be sure to consider a stay in San Juan to try some of Puerto Rico’s most notable dishes. This city is famed for the culinary marvels its restaurants whip up.
  • St. Lucia – Home to some of the most beautiful resorts in the entire Caribbean, this island dishes up a menu that’s a bit different. Here honeymooners will find a blend of Creole cuisine with a healthy dose of British and French flavors blended in for good measure. Green bananas and salt fish are a popular blend and barbecued seafood also finds its way on many menus.
  • St. Martin – This is a relatively small island destination that packs a huge gastronomical punch. With hundreds of restaurants, St. Martin is famed for its Dutch and French flavors with a touch of Caribbean style tossed in for good measure.

While the above islands are a few of our favorites, keep in mind the Caribbean is absolutely brimming over with incredible taste experiences. Making this region even better for honeymooners are those amazing beaches, stunning sunsets and romantic landscapes the Caribbean is famed for. Preservation Kits Offer An Easy Way To Care For Your Beach Wedding Dress!

| February 23rd, 2014 | No Comments »

Heading to an exotic destination to say your “I do’s” paves the way for some incredible memories for you, your honey and the friends and family you bring along. What better way to celebrate the start of your lives together than to enjoy an incredible adventure?

But, as any destination wedding bride will tell you, there are some serious logistics to contend with to make it all happen without a hitch. One of the biggest concerns for most brides is how to get the dress to the church on time, so to say, and how to get it back home for safekeeping for generations to come.

When it comes to the return journey, David’s Bridal has you covered! Whether you buy your dress from David’s Bridal or not, you can easily pick up one of the company’s preservation kits to ensure your gown makes it home safe and sound after the honeymoon.

Preservation kits are designed to make shipping gowns from destination wedding sites simple and easy. All brides need to do is buy a kit, place the dress back in it after the wedding – or on the morning after – and drop it into the box. David’s Bridal provides the tape and the return address labels. Once that’s done, just give the kit to the concierge at your resort or drop it off at a local David’s Bridal or UPS Store for safe delivery.

After a kit is mailed, David’s Bridal will take care of all the steps required to ensure a gown is preserved for years to come. Within one month of shipping, David’s will send you back your dress cleaned, repaired, if that’s needed, and preserved to last for 30 years. What’s even better is that David’s takes preservation a step further by making sure your dress is displayed in a window box if you don’t want to store it away in a closet or trunk. You can even opt to have personalized monogramming included.

While David’s has the return trip covered, you’ll still need to get your dress to the destination before the ceremony. The easiest (and most stress-free) way of doing this is to bring your dress along as a carry-on item if you’re flying. Check with your airline to see if they have any particular rules for transport.

Destination Weddings-Who To Invite, Who Pays For What…

Destination Wedding Etiquette Tips You Need to Know

Planning a destination wedding is a great way to wrap a vacation, your big day and a honeymoon all in one. What’s better is that your closest friends and dearest family members get to come along for the momentous occasion. The trick, however, is understanding a few rules of the road that can keep you out of hot water with said friends and family members.

Here are a few common etiquette issues that come up in relation to destination weddings and tips on how to handle them:

Who to Invite?

When it comes to the guest list, a destination wedding is much like any other wedding. You get to call all the shots on whom to invite. If you want to keep your ceremony small and intimate, do so. If you’d prefer a more elaborate affair with hundreds of guests in an exotic location, by all means, go for it.

Just remember as you’re planning to make to make sure others know your intentions. This can help spare feelings later if someone who isn’t invited knows up front you’re only asking immediate family, the best man and maid of honor, for example, to attend.

Who Gets to Pay?

Just because you’re throwing a destination wedding doesn’t mean you need to pay for your guests to make it to the location. Just like any other ceremony, guests are expected to pay for their transportation and lodging for the duration of the stay. While you’ll be expected to pay for the reception and perhaps a rehearsal dinner or greeting party, your guests can be expected to pay the other costs for their own trips.

Who Keeps Them Busy?

Destination weddings are often multiday affairs that involve guests trickling into the location over the course of several days. With this in mind, brides and grooms often fret over their duties of playing party hosts.

The biggest question that pops up here is how responsible are brides and grooms for their guests’ pre- and post-wedding entertainment? The answer to that one is simple, as well: It’s entirely up to you!

If you want to plan out activities for a full week of pre-wedding fun, go for it. If you don’t, there’s no need. Just ask guest to arrive in time for the big day. If they choose to come early, they can explore your chosen destination at their leisure and take in what they want to.

Destination wedding etiquette isn’t as tricky as some couples fear. Just plan ahead, let guests know the score in advance and have fun. Remember, it’s your day!
