Fabulous Honeymoon Ideas For Foodies & Picky Eaters

| September 19th, 2014 | No Comments »

Your honeymoon is an adventure that’s meant to create memories to last a lifetime. If you happen to be a foodie and your sweetheart is just plain picky, however, choosing the ideal location can prove quite problematic. While you might enjoy hitting the five-star restaurants of Paris or Rome, your honey would probably be happier eating meat and potatoes at a local diner.

Is there a way to compromise so you both have the time of your life while ensuring you also get to dine in the style you love the most? Absolutely!

Here are just a few ideas that can help ensure you can have your cake and eat it, too, so to say:

  • Go on a cruise – Whether it’s the rivers of Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska or an escape to the Greek isles, cruises are a perfect solution in this type of scenario. Onboard some of the best cruises you’ll find plenty of gourmet eats served up 24/7. Your picky honey will also discover that the constant buffets deliver lots of choices that include plain old meat and potatoes if that’s what is preferred. What is even better is that cruises are inherently romantic and the port of calls in high demand. That means your picky eater will be happy and you can both have the romantic adventure you’ve always dreamed of while still dining in style.
  • Think all-inclusive – Some of the best honeymoon resorts in the world happen to be all-inclusive. That means food and oftentimes drinks go along with the price of the stay. While not always, that also means that dining is available at guests’ whims. When that is the case, your picky eater can dine on dishes that suit while gourmet cuisine worthy of five-star status will be available when it’s desired. All-inclusive resorts are found in just about every major travel destination in the world, too. That means you can plan your dream honeymoon without having to compromise on the destination.

Should you discover that an all-inclusive resort or cruise just doesn’t quite suit your style, there are still options available. Consult your honeymoon travel advisor for ideas on where dine in the location you prefer. Perhaps try picking a great destination for foodie honeymoons and getting a few suggestions for places to dine that offer the best of both worlds.

Sunburn? Stuck in the loo? Here’s some tips for tackling those less glamorous honeymoon issues.

| September 16th, 2014 | No Comments »

Your honeymoon is your first adventure together as a married couple. You want everything from start to finish perfect; seeped with enough romance to last a lifetime. Chances are it will be right up until it’s not.

Face it: Perfection is for scripted romance movies. You and your honey are humans and that means it’s pretty likely a few snafus will arise no matter how hard you try to avoid them. It’s how you handle those little mishaps that determines whether you’ll look back on your honeymoon with stars in your eyes or a preference to forgot the whole thing.

Here are some honeymoon travel tips “they” probably haven’t told you about that can help you avoid (or handle) some of the most common mishaps:

Feeling Soggy

If your honeymoon is taking place in a sunny destination, chances are swimming is on the agenda. That also means you and your sweetie are going to be soggy messes, or at least your bathing suits will be. To avoid the awkwardness that goes with trying to get into suits that just haven’t dried out, be sure to bring at least two. That way one can always be hung out to dry thoroughly while you enjoy the sun and surf in the other.

Sunburns and Dehydration

Noting can sideline romance quite as quickly as a burn or a case of dehydration. Be sure to wear lots of sunscreen (and reapply it frequently). Also, limit time in direct sunlight and consider covering up a bit when you can. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid the blah feeling and fatigue that go along with dehydration. When it comes to sunburns and dehydration, an ounce of prevention is really worth a pound of cure. Plus, you’ll look a whole lot sexier for those romantic nights if you’re not burned from head to toe!

‘Loo’ming Problems

It’s uncomfortable and no one likes to talk about it, but the truth is vacations and digestive issues do seem to go hand-in-hand. Your honeymoon isn’t likely to be an exception to that rule. After all, you’ll probably indulge on some rather rich foods and drinks. Add to that you’re going to be far from the comfort of your own loo and the privacy you’re accustomed to.

So, how can you avoid those uncomfortable, frequent trips to the loo? Exercise a little common sense and do your body and your honey a favor by trying to eat healthy, balanced meals most of the time. Drink lots of water and be sure not to overindulge on new cuisine or overly rich dishes until you’re sure your body will react kindly. All that isn’t to say you shouldn’t have fun or try new things, just take it slow. It’s also a good idea to bring along some digestive aids … just in case.

Follow some commonsense honeymoon travel tips and your time away will be as perfect as it can possibly be. To find out more about booking your dream getaway, just reach out to one of our honeymoon travel advisors for a free consultation.

Groomsmen Gift Solutions for your Destination Wedding

| August 20th, 2014 | No Comments »

By Claire Paniccia

For a destination wedding, groomsmen gifts can get a bit complicated. After all, your groomsmen will need to be able to bring them back home with them in their luggage, maybe even a carry on. That nixes personalized pen knives, razor sets, or that awesome home beer brewing kit. So what’s a groom to do? pursuit3 According to Nate DeMars, founder of Pursuit, a local Columbus suit shop, many of the grooms they work with opt to pay for a chunk of the suit they have their groomsmen wearing. “It’s a practical gift that makes being in their wedding not as much of a financial commitment,” he says. For destination weddings that Pursuit has worked with, rather than the cotton or linen suit (common for beach weddings), grooms have their men wearing colored suits, like bright blue, or light grey suits, or colored shirts that fit the beach motif. These may still be specific to the wedding, but are definitely more flexible for use than a linen suit. This way, when everyone goes home a little tanner, they can still wear the suit they bought in an everyday setting. Other grooms opt to purchase everyone fun accessories. Pursuit has several styles of ties and bow ties as well as pocket squares. DeMars mentions a coral linen bow tie that might work in a beach wedding. Perhaps most zany, though, are the Happy Socks. “Almost every wedding party we do does Happy Socks. It’s a fun thing they can do that may not be as noticeable while they’re up on the altar,” says DeMars. He also suggests the groom bring the whole box of the socks or pocket squares so no one forgets. “I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how receptive the groomsmen are. We teach a lot of them to tie a bow tie for the first time. They wear funky socks for the first time,” says DeMars. “It’s a fun part of the process.” Interested in checking out Pursuit’s fit-cut suits or Happy Socks? How To Hide Your Adult Toys From Airport Security

| August 5th, 2014 | No Comments »

If you’re getting ready to head out for your honeymoon or romantic get-away, maybe you’re thinking about bringing something along to spice things up a bit. But, the last thing you want is to have that mortifying moment at airport security when your favorite toy pops up in the x-ray, or even worse, when some overzealous security person whips it out of you bag! So we’ve scoured the internet to find some fantastic travel friendly toys!

Go Incognito: A lot of adult toys were made to look like something else. The ever popular lipstick vibrator looks like a tube of lipstick, and will easily get through security without raising any eyebrows. You can find this along with other discrete toys over at Condommania.com .  If you’re looking for something really different and willing to spend a few extra dollars, the “Make Me Over” offered by Bedroom Kandi looks like a press powder compact and even comes with its’ own charger.

Lingerie:  Girls of all shapes and sizes deserve to look sexy! Lingerie company Adore Me really nails it with affordable lingerie for everyone. Their Beautiful Bride Collection offers something to take you from the engagement party all the way through the big day.  And of course lingerie will easily pass through airport security without anyone thinking anything of it.

Bottle swap: You don’t have to look further than your local drug store to find an interesting assortment of enhancement lubes. You could easily put the contents into a multi-use travel bottle and pass it off as shampoo. Just remember the rule for liquids and gels-3oz or less! Just because security is tight doesn’t mean you can’t bring along something scandalous. Just channel your inner sexy secret agent! If you get creative about how you pack by using some of these suggestions and maybe coming up with some of your own solutions, too, there’s no reason anyone has to have any clue. And, BONUS! You’ll have something new to giggle about in the bedroom!

Destination Wedding Gift Bags: Tips for Making them Easy and Special

Destination Wedding Gift Bags: Tips for Making them Easy and Special

Saying your “I do’s” in an exotic location in front of friends and family who have decided to make the trip with you is an incredibly special time. You want everything to be just perfect: from the dress right down to the wedding guest gift bags.

And, therein lies the problem.

While it’s fairly easy to make sure that dress gets to your destination in pristine condition courtesy of special packaging and airline crew assistance, those gift bags aren’t always so simple to plan for. With TSA rules being what they are, it’s hard to determine just what you can bring along to make sure your guests get a little something to bring home to remember the occasion by.

Since there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to want to pack smart, pack light and ensure none of your wedding guest gift bag items get snatched up by TSA officials just doing their jobs, here are some tips for items you can bring on a plane with you or have waiting at your hotel for your arrival. Keep in mind, you might have to check some gift bag items so do be sure to consult your airline’s regulations, as well.

Here are just a few ideas to consider for your wedding guest gift bags that can make it through TSA screening if you pack right:

  • Must-Have Travel Items – It’s the little things that guests at destination weddings often find the most considerate. If you’re going someplace sunny, consider including travel-size sunscreen, hand lotion, lip balm and other personal care items that can make your guests more comfortable during their stay. Consider shopping local artisan outlets for great buys on organic items that add an extra special touch, too.
  • Handmade Artisan Items – Consider visiting Etsy to find handcrafted small items to include in gift bags. From candy “love pills” to personalized tea candles, the cottage industry is alive with great ideas for gift bags. If you want to get really personal with your gift bag items, consider shopping online in advance to buy handcrafted items from your destination to include in the gift bags. Make the arrangements just right and your items could be delivered to your hotel in time for your arrival to avoid having to bring them on the plane.
  • Tourist Information – Since your wedding is taking place in a destination, a thoughtful touch is to include information on local tourist hotspots your guests can visit. You can collect these when you arrive or work with your hotel to have them shipped to you before you leave so you can assemble gift bags before you depart for the wedding.
  • Children’s items – If children are included in your event, consider including special items just for them in gift bags. Sunscreen, toys, crayons and coloring books can be big hits with moms, dads and the little ones.

When planning for a destination wedding, it’s important not to forget the little things that show guests how happy you are they’re along for the fun. For more information on destination weddings and planning out those gift bags, be sure to consult with our destination wedding pros.

What’s Included At An All-Inclusive Resort?

| July 13th, 2014 | No Comments »

Our Top All-Inclusive Resort Questions: Over the years we’ve gotten a lot of questions about what is and what isn’t included in an all-inclusive resort. So we’ve put together a great list of our most frequently asked questions and answers!

  1. What’s included in the all-inclusive plan?

All inclusive typically means all your meals, drinks, taxes and tips. Cocktails, beer, and glasses of house wines are included. Bottles of premium wines are usually extra. Most of your better all-inclusive resorts have a lobster night, but may charge for lobster on other nights. Non-motorized water sports are usually also included. So, a kayak would be included, while using a jet ski would carry and additional fee.

  1. How much cash should I bring with me?

You won’t need much cash while staying at an all-inclusive resort. The resort will ask for a credit card upon check-in for incidentals, such as spa treatments. But otherwise you won’t need much cash. We usually recommend about $100.00 for most Caribbean and Mexico resorts. Most destinations do accept US Currency. But if you want local currency you can either order foreign currency from your bank before you go, or find a currency exchange desk at the airport upon arrival.

  1. What is the dress code?

It varies by resort, but most do have a dress code! You can find a great article about it here!

  1. When can I make my spa & restaurant reservations?

Most resorts will not allow you to make restaurant reservations prior to arrival. While we prefer resorts that don’t require restaurant reservations, some resorts will allow you to make all of your restaurant reservations for the week upon arrival. Some resorts will allow you to make spa reservations before you arrive. Check with your travel agent for more info.

  1. Do I need to bring my own beach towels?

We get this question a lot! We have yet to find a resort that doesn’t provide beach towels.

  1. Do I need to bring an electrical converter?

This varies by destination. For most resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, you don’t need one. But we did discover some older resorts in St Lucia that do require a converter. You will definitely need one for Tahiti! We found this great universal converter on Amazon.

  1. How will I get to and from the airport?

You wouldn’t get in a car with a stranger at home, so why would you do it in another country? We almost never recommend cabbing it. Your travel agent should be able to include transfers to and from the hotel in your package. Some transfers will stop at several other hotels on the way to your hotel, which can be a huge drag after being on a plane for the better part of the day. For a little extra, you can enjoy a non-stop transfer to and from your hotel.

  1. Do I need to tip?

This is probably the question we get asked the most! While tips are included at most all-inclusive resorts, we usually recommend that you bring along some cash for tips. The people at the resorts work a lot of long, hot hours. And with the exchange rates, a little US currency goes a long way in some other destinations. So we always recommend that you bring a little bit to tip the housekeeping staff, room service, bellhop, etc.

  1. Do I have to reserve the beach beds?

This varies greatly by resort. Some resorts do allow you to reserve a beach bed, while others do not. Some resorts charge for beach beds, but most are free.  We’ve even stayed in resorts where the beach beds were on a lottery system. So if a beach bed is important to you ask your travel agent to check with the concierge at the resort.

  1. Are there any upgrades or specials for honeymoon couples?

Yes! However most resorts are going to require some kind of proof that it really is your honeymoon, such as a marriage certificate. Most hotels will extend the honeymoon upgrades or amenities as long as you check in within 90 days of your wedding date. But again, this varies by resort. Some resorts do require that you’re registered as a honeymoon couple either at the time the reservation is made or 30 days before arrival. So check with your travel agent for more info.   Do you have other questions about all-inclusive resorts that we didn’t cover? Ask them here!

| July 7th, 2014 | No Comments »

By Claire Paniccia

Everyone knows the drill: photographer takes pictures during the wedding and the reception, candid and staged, clicking away while remaining as inconspicuous as possible. Meanwhile, your aunt and cousins and your friends from college are holding up their smart phones, snapping quick photos of their own and you never get to see them, at least not have your own copies.

Want to remember the adorable cupcakes at your bridal shower? Snap and text! Have a great picture of you and your Maid of Honor at your bachelorette celebration? Send it to the capsule! And at the reception, you can set up a live slide show – then the whole place becomes a giant photo booth projected onto the big screen! Imagine that at your beach-side wedding, with the sunset just behind it and tiki torches illuminating everyone’s smiles.

Capstory even chooses the best of your self-captured moments and professionally edits them. Then they put them all together in a photo book to keep, as well as in a beautiful slide show you can share on social media. Don’t believe us? Check out their website – http://www.capstory.me/
