The Best Way to Score Honeymoon Perks & Upgrades

| October 2nd, 2014 | No Comments »

Once you walk down that aisle, say your vows and celebrate with friends and family, chances are you and your honey want to be swept away to a romantic destination to celebrate your first days of wedded bliss together in style. The world’s best resorts make it happen by offering honeymooners all kinds of special touches, but there are some tricks that go along with obtaining the royal treatment at your resort of choice.

If you don’t know how to make sure those honeymoon amenities are part of the package, chances are you won’t get them. So, just what type of special treatment and surprises can you expect on your honeymoon?

Packages for honeymooner can vary from resort to resort, but the best offer some basics that just make checking in and getting comfortable a whole lot more romantic. Special touches, such as chilled champagne or wine, are common. A turndown service that includes laying out flower petals on the bed isn’t out of the ordinary. Neither is being treated to a breakfast in bed courtesy of the resort. Other romantic touches might include couples’ massages, a special outing, welcome gifts, fruit baskets, candlelit dinners for two, late check outs, T-shirts, flower arrangements and so much more.

So, how can you make sure you get the very best? Make sure to follow these honeymoon planning tips:

  • Ask your travel consultant – Most all-inclusive resorts offer special touches as add-ons, but the rules vary greatly by resort. Some resorts even offer different levels of honeymoon packages, but almost all require that you’re in a certain room category, for a select number of nights. Your honeymoon pro will know which rooms will offer you the most bang for your buck.
  • Bring the right documents: Most resorts will require some kind of verification that you’re really on your honeymoon, such as a marriage certificate. And many require that you check in within 30 days of your wedding date. Keep this in mind if you’ve decided to delay your honeymoon due to school or work schedules.
  • If you’ve got a special request – Resort honeymoon amenities don’t necessarily have to be on the menu. If you want to, for example, have your sweetie’s favorite dessert delivered to the room from a local eatery, work with the concierge to make it so. The best resorts will go above and beyond to accommodate requests within reason.

The perfect honeymoon starts with careful planning. Work with your travel advisor to unlock all the resort honeymoon amenities you and your sweetheart think will make your trip even more special.

Fabulous Honeymoon Ideas For Foodies & Picky Eaters

| September 19th, 2014 | No Comments »

Your honeymoon is an adventure that’s meant to create memories to last a lifetime. If you happen to be a foodie and your sweetheart is just plain picky, however, choosing the ideal location can prove quite problematic. While you might enjoy hitting the five-star restaurants of Paris or Rome, your honey would probably be happier eating meat and potatoes at a local diner.

Is there a way to compromise so you both have the time of your life while ensuring you also get to dine in the style you love the most? Absolutely!

Here are just a few ideas that can help ensure you can have your cake and eat it, too, so to say:

  • Go on a cruise – Whether it’s the rivers of Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska or an escape to the Greek isles, cruises are a perfect solution in this type of scenario. Onboard some of the best cruises you’ll find plenty of gourmet eats served up 24/7. Your picky honey will also discover that the constant buffets deliver lots of choices that include plain old meat and potatoes if that’s what is preferred. What is even better is that cruises are inherently romantic and the port of calls in high demand. That means your picky eater will be happy and you can both have the romantic adventure you’ve always dreamed of while still dining in style.
  • Think all-inclusive – Some of the best honeymoon resorts in the world happen to be all-inclusive. That means food and oftentimes drinks go along with the price of the stay. While not always, that also means that dining is available at guests’ whims. When that is the case, your picky eater can dine on dishes that suit while gourmet cuisine worthy of five-star status will be available when it’s desired. All-inclusive resorts are found in just about every major travel destination in the world, too. That means you can plan your dream honeymoon without having to compromise on the destination.

Should you discover that an all-inclusive resort or cruise just doesn’t quite suit your style, there are still options available. Consult your honeymoon travel advisor for ideas on where dine in the location you prefer. Perhaps try picking a great destination for foodie honeymoons and getting a few suggestions for places to dine that offer the best of both worlds.

With their all-inclusive meal pricing and 24-hour food availability, both your tastes will be pleased. Plus, cruises tend to have a wonderfully romantic side, making them perfect for anniversary celebrations.
  • Consult with your anniversary travel advisor – If you prefer checking out local restaurants when you travel, consult with your travel advisor for destinations that offer the best options for foodie travel with a picky eater along for the ride. Chances are your advisor will have some great ideas in mind on where to go, what to see and where to eat to make both of you happy.

What’s Included At An All-Inclusive Resort?

| July 13th, 2014 | No Comments »

Our Top All-Inclusive Resort Questions: Over the years we’ve gotten a lot of questions about what is and what isn’t included in an all-inclusive resort. So we’ve put together a great list of our most frequently asked questions and answers!

  1. What’s included in the all-inclusive plan?

All inclusive typically means all your meals, drinks, taxes and tips. Cocktails, beer, and glasses of house wines are included. Bottles of premium wines are usually extra. Most of your better all-inclusive resorts have a lobster night, but may charge for lobster on other nights. Non-motorized water sports are usually also included. So, a kayak would be included, while using a jet ski would carry and additional fee.

  1. How much cash should I bring with me?

You won’t need much cash while staying at an all-inclusive resort. The resort will ask for a credit card upon check-in for incidentals, such as spa treatments. But otherwise you won’t need much cash. We usually recommend about $100.00 for most Caribbean and Mexico resorts. Most destinations do accept US Currency. But if you want local currency you can either order foreign currency from your bank before you go, or find a currency exchange desk at the airport upon arrival.

  1. What is the dress code?

It varies by resort, but most do have a dress code! You can find a great article about it here!

  1. When can I make my spa & restaurant reservations?

Most resorts will not allow you to make restaurant reservations prior to arrival. While we prefer resorts that don’t require restaurant reservations, some resorts will allow you to make all of your restaurant reservations for the week upon arrival. Some resorts will allow you to make spa reservations before you arrive. Check with your travel agent for more info.

  1. Do I need to bring my own beach towels?

We get this question a lot! We have yet to find a resort that doesn’t provide beach towels.

  1. Do I need to bring an electrical converter?

This varies by destination. For most resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, you don’t need one. But we did discover some older resorts in St Lucia that do require a converter. You will definitely need one for Tahiti! We found this great universal converter on Amazon.

  1. How will I get to and from the airport?

You wouldn’t get in a car with a stranger at home, so why would you do it in another country? We almost never recommend cabbing it. Your travel agent should be able to include transfers to and from the hotel in your package. Some transfers will stop at several other hotels on the way to your hotel, which can be a huge drag after being on a plane for the better part of the day. For a little extra, you can enjoy a non-stop transfer to and from your hotel.

  1. Do I need to tip?

This is probably the question we get asked the most! While tips are included at most all-inclusive resorts, we usually recommend that you bring along some cash for tips. The people at the resorts work a lot of long, hot hours. And with the exchange rates, a little US currency goes a long way in some other destinations. So we always recommend that you bring a little bit to tip the housekeeping staff, room service, bellhop, etc.

  1. Do I have to reserve the beach beds?

This varies greatly by resort. Some resorts do allow you to reserve a beach bed, while others do not. Some resorts charge for beach beds, but most are free.  We’ve even stayed in resorts where the beach beds were on a lottery system. So if a beach bed is important to you ask your travel agent to check with the concierge at the resort.

  1. Are there any upgrades or specials for honeymoon couples?

Yes! However most resorts are going to require some kind of proof that it really is your honeymoon, such as a marriage certificate. Most hotels will extend the honeymoon upgrades or amenities as long as you check in within 90 days of your wedding date. But again, this varies by resort. Some resorts do require that you’re registered as a honeymoon couple either at the time the reservation is made or 30 days before arrival. So check with your travel agent for more info.   Do you have other questions about all-inclusive resorts that we didn’t cover? Ask them here!

Capstory – Crowdsourced Wedding Photography Made Possible

| July 7th, 2014 | No Comments »

By Claire Paniccia

Everyone knows the drill: photographer takes pictures during the wedding and the reception, candid and staged, clicking away while remaining as inconspicuous as possible. Meanwhile, your aunt and cousins and your friends from college are holding up their smart phones, snapping quick photos of their own and you never get to see them, at least not have your own copies.

Capstory, a local Columbus business, has found a way to catch all those quickly snapped photos from your friends and family’s phones and put them all in an online capsule just for you, the bride and groom. All they have to do is text them in!

Capstory allows you to add that personal touch to your wedding photos, capturing those personal moments all on your own. You can even include all your pre-wedding events in your capsule! Want to remember the adorable cupcakes at your bridal shower? Snap and text! Have a great picture of you and your Maid of Honor at your bachelorette celebration? Send it to the capsule! And at the reception, you can set up a live slide show – then the whole place becomes a giant photo booth projected onto the big screen! Imagine that at your beach-side wedding, with the sunset just behind it and tiki torches illuminating everyone’s smiles.

Capstory even chooses the best of your self-captured moments and professionally edits them. Then they put them all together in a photo book to keep, as well as in a beautiful slide show you can share on social media. Don’t believe us? Check out their website – http://www.capstory.me/

Honeymoon Attire-What Not To Wear!

| June 29th, 2014 | No Comments »

One of the questions we get asked rather frequently here at Bliss Honeymoons, is “what should I wear on my honeymoon?” Many of the resorts have dress codes that aren’t always easy to understand. Here’s a couple of packing tips that may make your trip more enjoyable.

If you’re heading for a beach destination, be prepared for some humidity. Clothing that is tight or heavy will become uncomfortable very quickly. Loose fitting, lighter weight fabrics will make your stay in the tropics more enjoyable.

Even in a beach destination, the evenings can be downright cool. So bring things that you can layer easily. You’ll find that many of the restaurants are down-right frigid at dinner time from the air conditioning going full blast all day long. So bringing a sweater or wrap along will help keep you more comfortable.

Pack some dress clothes! While it may seem odd to pack dress clothes to hang out on the beach all week, many of the resort’s better restaurants require men to wear pants, ties, jackets, etc at dinner. We recently had a groom who went to a 5 star resort for the week without a single pair of pants! He and his new bride missed out on being able to enjoy the resort’s better restaurants because the hotel wouldn’t make an exception to the dress code. They had to dine alfresco by the beach all week long.

While checked luggage fees continue to increase, having a few extra options in your suitcase, from casual to dressy, will allow you to explore everything that your honeymoon destination has to offer.

What was your favorite thing about the trip?
Ladera is authentic St Lucia. Soufriere is where it is at if you want to really understand the culture, food, and people of the island. And what an island it is. There are many secrets natives of the island know, from the way they live, to the food they eat and herbs they use to heal. Ladera is at the heart of it all, literally, you are between one of the great wonders of the world. Words cannot do Ladera or the Pitons justice. I loved everything. The staff and service was like nothing I ever received in my life. Little touches you don’t think of happened all the time. The staff was like one big, happy family and that rubs off on you as a guest. The food is the best I have ever had. Imagine the freshest fish right from the sea, exotic herbs, fruits and vegetables that taste incredible. Go in to town, explore. Learn about this island, it is a true treasure.

Laura was incredibly kind to me. I ask a lot of questions on any big purchase, and this honeymoon was a big one! I look at every possible angle, I’m sure Laura will agree! But Laura always was kind and professional through every planning up and down I had. I’d recommend Laura to anyone planning a big trip. This was the best service I have ever gotten on any big purchase. I’m grateful I found her! The trip was beyond my expectations. And it was complicated. We started in Puerto Rico, got married in Dominican and then Honeymooned is St Lucia (I still can’t believe it happened). Laura did all of our flights, and all of the honeymoon booking. There were no problems. None. And all of Laura’s recommendations were as she said they would be or better. Laura is the real deal. If you want the trip of your lifetime, then book through her!
