Our Favorite Foodie Anniversary Hot Spots!

| March 6th, 2014 | No Comments »

Love exploring flavorful regional cuisine that’s as tempting to the eyes as it is the stomach? Prefer dishes with a bit of a tropical flair? If you’re looking for an anniversary adventure that would make even the most discriminating foodie jealous, set your sights on the Caribbean.

Why the Caribbean?

If you and your honey are serious foodies, we have a few words that answer that question rather nicely: eclectic flavors, romantic beaches, world-class resorts and 5-star restaurants.

The major Caribbean destinations each have their own signature flavors with dashes of international flavors added in for good measure. While fish, chicken, pork, beans, rice and tropical fruits are mainstays, many of the islands have rather distinct ways of serving up fare courtesy of their European influences throughout history. And, if the food wasn’t enough of a reason to set sail for the Caribbean to celebrate your anniversary, the stunning landscapes, balmy weather and upscale resorts can surely sweeten the deal.

Not sure where to go in the Caribbean to mark a milestone anniversary while enjoying a tasty foodie adventure? Here are a few of our favorite places to help you get started planning:

  • Jamaica – This island nation is famous for more than its steel drum sounds. Put Jamaica on your anniversary itinerary and you’ll get to enjoy some of the most unique flavors found in the world. Be sure to try jerk anyway you can get it and don’t pass up the rum either – it’s some of the best in the world.
  • Puerto Rico – Dishes here deliver a true blending of Caribbean, American and Spanish flavors. If the tropical splendor of Puerto Rico fits your anniversary plans, consider a stop in San Juan. Here you’ll find some of the best restaurants found anywhere in the world.
  • St. Lucia – This island nation is famed for its stunning landscapes and world-class resorts, but it’s no slouch in the food department either. With its signature Creole flavors, St. Lucia keeps it spicy for sure. Be sure to sample the green bananas and salt fish while here. You can also tempt your taste buds with barbecued fish.
  • St. Martin – With its heavy Dutch and French influences, this island’s cuisine is truly tempting. St. Martin, in fact, is said to have hundreds of restaurants packed into its rather tiny 37 square miles. Don’t let the size food you though; St. Martin packs in the romance, wonder and flavors to make certain vacationers here have the time of their lives.

Ready to explore the flavors of the Caribbean? Be sure to check with our anniversary travel experts for more tips on where to go – and more importantly – where to dine!

Hoping to celebrate a big anniversary in 2014 with a big trip somewhere fabulous, romantic and memorable? If so, there are some details you’ll want to start attending to as soon as possible to make sure your vacation goes off without a hitch.

Here are just a few tips to help make planning your 2014 anniversary trip easier:

  • Establish your target budget early: While you don’t have to have a complete budget in place during the beginning stages of planning a great anniversary trip, a target range can help guide all the details yet to come. Knowing how much you can spend can help you decide where to go, what type of resort to stay in and what side activities might be within reach during your romantic adventure.
  • Pick the location: The earlier you decide where it is you want to go on an anniversary trip the better. This little detail is a must to enable you to start booking travel, lodging and sightseeing adventures and side trips. Depending on your desired destination and the time of year you plan to travel, booking early can be very important to ensure availability, as well. Not sure where to go? Consider locations that fit you and your sweetie’s interests. Are there places you’ve always wanted to visit? Do you share a particular hobby that a certain destination would be perfect for? These factors can help you determine the ideal place to go.
  • Consult our anniversary travel advisors: A travel expert can help take all the little details involved in planning and booking a trip off your shoulders. The earlier you speak with an expert, the better off you’ll be. A great anniversary travel advisor can help you narrow down your selection of locations, assist you in booking flights, help you find and secure rooms in a great hotel or resort and even give you great ideas on things you can do for fun while you’re on your trip. The very best can even help you save a little money along the way.
  • Book early: Even if your anniversary trip isn’t set until the end of 2014, it’s always a good idea to book accommodations as early as possible – especially if you’re going during a peak travel time, such as summer or the holidays. Check with your anniversary travel advisor for help with the details.

Celebrating a big anniversary with a romantic getaway is a fantastic way to mark the milestone while making new memories to last. Be sure to attend to those little details early so your trip goes off without a hitch.

Tips For Planning A Surprise Vow Renewal

| December 9th, 2013 | No Comments »

Whether you’re hoping to surprise the love of your life with a vow renewal ceremony to mark a big anniversary or you’re treating a special couple with the romantic gesture, there are some things you’ll need to consider to pull off such a big undertaking on the down low.  When having the element of surprise is half the fun, you’ll need to pay attention to the little details while making certain no one tips off the honoree or honorees.

Here are some details you’ll want to attend to as early in the planning as possible:

  • The date and location: These two particular items go hand-in-hand whether you’re planning a ceremony in the couple’s backyard or one on an exotic island in the South Pacific. Without the date, you can’t book the venue. If possible, consider hosting the ceremony on or close to the couple’s actual anniversary. This proximity can help you with your “cover story,” but we’ll get more into that later.
  • The ceremony details: Be sure to answer questions like what type of ceremony should be held, who will officiate and how the sequence of events will play out as early as possible. Also be sure to start considering the post-ceremony reception as early as you can. Keep in mind, the ceremony and reception don’t have to be as elaborate as an actual wedding.
  • The guest list: This is an incredibly important detail you won’t want to leave on the backburner for long. Even if you plan on hosting the ceremony close to the couple’s home, people will need advance notice to be able to attend. This can be especially so if the location requires travel. Be sure to let guests know about the surprise factor involved. And, don’t feel overwhelmed by planning a huge guest list. Some of the most memorable renewal ceremonies only involve close family and a few dear friends.
  • The cover story: Once you have the where, when, who, how and after party planned, you’re going to need to be able to get your couple to the location, dressed appropriately. This is where a cover story comes in. For renewals that take place close to anniversary dates, the cover can be simple. “We’re taking you out to a fancy dinner to celebrate,” will suffice for a ceremony close to home. “We all chipped in for a romantic trip to (insert your dream location here) for your anniversary,” can work wonders for a ceremony that involves travel. Just be sure your story is believable.

Planning a vow renewal ceremony for your love or a couple that’s dear can take a lot of forethought. To make it easier when it comes to ironing out those little details, consider bringing in our anniversary travel experts early in the planning. Our pros can help with everything from travel arrangements to booking a venue for the party.

One a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your trip
What was your favorite thing about the trip?
Snorkeling on the reefs was awesome. I witnessed underwater life I had not seen anywhere else. Take the excursion on the glass bottom boat. It was $30 US and included a dive master and photographer. The next day I was able to purchase a DVD of pictures he took while we made dives into the reef. We went to three different locations and these pros knew where to go and what to look for; plus they documented it for you in vivid photography. It was incredible.
Were there any service issues we should be aware of?
When we arrived at our room our door lock did not operate properly. The staff was very helpful and had us in a better room within an hour. All of the staff was helpful, kind and very concerned about our satisfaction. The restaurants had excellent waiters and chefs, being able to Share restaurants with the Secrets Sunscape resort next door opened even more opportunities for dining. Drink service on the beach was fast and courteous. On our last night there was a show on the beach including performers who twirled fire. This was a spectacular resort destination in Cozumel.
Which of our consultants did you work with?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the service you received from your consultant?
Would you recommend our services to others?
Reason for your response
Everything was arranged so that we did not have to worry. Pick up from airport and return no problems and no paying taxis. Services for our anniversary like breakfast in bed and turn down of sheets with candles on our anniversary night made the event very special. All of this was prearranged by Laura….Thanks :)
