Groomsmen Gift Solutions for your Destination Wedding

| August 20th, 2014 | No Comments »

By Claire Paniccia

For a destination wedding, groomsmen gifts can get a bit complicated. After all, your groomsmen will need to be able to bring them back home with them in their luggage, maybe even a carry on. That nixes personalized pen knives, razor sets, or that awesome home beer brewing kit. So what’s a groom to do? pursuit3 According to Nate DeMars, founder of Pursuit, a local Columbus suit shop, many of the grooms they work with opt to pay for a chunk of the suit they have their groomsmen wearing. “It’s a practical gift that makes being in their wedding not as much of a financial commitment,” he says. For destination weddings that Pursuit has worked with, rather than the cotton or linen suit (common for beach weddings), grooms have their men wearing colored suits, like bright blue, or light grey suits, or colored shirts that fit the beach motif. These may still be specific to the wedding, but are definitely more flexible for use than a linen suit. This way, when everyone goes home a little tanner, they can still wear the suit they bought in an everyday setting. Other grooms opt to purchase everyone fun accessories. Pursuit has several styles of ties and bow ties as well as pocket squares. DeMars mentions a coral linen bow tie that might work in a beach wedding. Perhaps most zany, though, are the Happy Socks. “Almost every wedding party we do does Happy Socks. It’s a fun thing they can do that may not be as noticeable while they’re up on the altar,” says DeMars. He also suggests the groom bring the whole box of the socks or pocket squares so no one forgets. “I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how receptive the groomsmen are. We teach a lot of them to tie a bow tie for the first time. They wear funky socks for the first time,” says DeMars. “It’s a fun part of the process.” Interested in checking out Pursuit’s fit-cut suits or Happy Socks? Preservation Kits Offer An Easy Way To Care For Your Beach Wedding Dress!

| February 23rd, 2014 | No Comments »

Heading to an exotic destination to say your “I do’s” paves the way for some incredible memories for you, your honey and the friends and family you bring along. What better way to celebrate the start of your lives together than to enjoy an incredible adventure?

But, as any destination wedding bride will tell you, there are some serious logistics to contend with to make it all happen without a hitch. One of the biggest concerns for most brides is how to get the dress to the church on time, so to say, and how to get it back home for safekeeping for generations to come.

When it comes to the return journey, David’s Bridal has you covered! Whether you buy your dress from David’s Bridal or not, you can easily pick up one of the company’s preservation kits to ensure your gown makes it home safe and sound after the honeymoon.

Preservation kits are designed to make shipping gowns from destination wedding sites simple and easy. All brides need to do is buy a kit, place the dress back in it after the wedding – or on the morning after – and drop it into the box. David’s Bridal provides the tape and the return address labels. Once that’s done, just give the kit to the concierge at your resort or drop it off at a local David’s Bridal or UPS Store for safe delivery.

After a kit is mailed, David’s Bridal will take care of all the steps required to ensure a gown is preserved for years to come. Within one month of shipping, David’s will send you back your dress cleaned, repaired, if that’s needed, and preserved to last for 30 years. What’s even better is that David’s takes preservation a step further by making sure your dress is displayed in a window box if you don’t want to store it away in a closet or trunk. You can even opt to have personalized monogramming included.

While David’s has the return trip covered, you’ll still need to get your dress to the destination before the ceremony. The easiest (and most stress-free) way of doing this is to bring your dress along as a carry-on item if you’re flying. Check with your airline to see if they have any particular rules for transport.

Destination Weddings-Who To Invite, Who Pays For What…

Destination Wedding Etiquette Tips You Need to Know

Planning a destination wedding is a great way to wrap a vacation, your big day and a honeymoon all in one. What’s better is that your closest friends and dearest family members get to come along for the momentous occasion. The trick, however, is understanding a few rules of the road that can keep you out of hot water with said friends and family members.

Here are a few common etiquette issues that come up in relation to destination weddings and tips on how to handle them:

Who to Invite?

When it comes to the guest list, a destination wedding is much like any other wedding. You get to call all the shots on whom to invite. If you want to keep your ceremony small and intimate, do so. If you’d prefer a more elaborate affair with hundreds of guests in an exotic location, by all means, go for it.

Just remember as you’re planning to make to make sure others know your intentions. This can help spare feelings later if someone who isn’t invited knows up front you’re only asking immediate family, the best man and maid of honor, for example, to attend.

Who Gets to Pay?

Just because you’re throwing a destination wedding doesn’t mean you need to pay for your guests to make it to the location. Just like any other ceremony, guests are expected to pay for their transportation and lodging for the duration of the stay. While you’ll be expected to pay for the reception and perhaps a rehearsal dinner or greeting party, your guests can be expected to pay the other costs for their own trips.

Who Keeps Them Busy?

Destination weddings are often multiday affairs that involve guests trickling into the location over the course of several days. With this in mind, brides and grooms often fret over their duties of playing party hosts.

The biggest question that pops up here is how responsible are brides and grooms for their guests’ pre- and post-wedding entertainment? The answer to that one is simple, as well: It’s entirely up to you!

If you want to plan out activities for a full week of pre-wedding fun, go for it. If you don’t, there’s no need. Just ask guest to arrive in time for the big day. If they choose to come early, they can explore your chosen destination at their leisure and take in what they want to.

Destination wedding etiquette isn’t as tricky as some couples fear. Just plan ahead, let guests know the score in advance and have fun. Remember, it’s your day!
