What’s Included At An All-Inclusive Resort?

| July 13th, 2014 | No Comments »

Our Top All-Inclusive Resort Questions: Over the years we’ve gotten a lot of questions about what is and what isn’t included in an all-inclusive resort. So we’ve put together a great list of our most frequently asked questions and answers!

  1. What’s included in the all-inclusive plan?

All inclusive typically means all your meals, drinks, taxes and tips. Cocktails, beer, and glasses of house wines are included. Bottles of premium wines are usually extra. Most of your better all-inclusive resorts have a lobster night, but may charge for lobster on other nights. Non-motorized water sports are usually also included. So, a kayak would be included, while using a jet ski would carry and additional fee.

  1. How much cash should I bring with me?

You won’t need much cash while staying at an all-inclusive resort. The resort will ask for a credit card upon check-in for incidentals, such as spa treatments. But otherwise you won’t need much cash. We usually recommend about $100.00 for most Caribbean and Mexico resorts. Most destinations do accept US Currency. But if you want local currency you can either order foreign currency from your bank before you go, or find a currency exchange desk at the airport upon arrival.

  1. What is the dress code?

It varies by resort, but most do have a dress code! You can find a great article about it here!

  1. When can I make my spa & restaurant reservations?

Most resorts will not allow you to make restaurant reservations prior to arrival. While we prefer resorts that don’t require restaurant reservations, some resorts will allow you to make all of your restaurant reservations for the week upon arrival. Some resorts will allow you to make spa reservations before you arrive. Check with your travel agent for more info.

  1. Do I need to bring my own beach towels?

We get this question a lot! We have yet to find a resort that doesn’t provide beach towels.

  1. Do I need to bring an electrical converter?

This varies by destination. For most resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, you don’t need one. But we did discover some older resorts in St Lucia that do require a converter. You will definitely need one for Tahiti! We found this great universal converter on Amazon.

  1. How will I get to and from the airport?

You wouldn’t get in a car with a stranger at home, so why would you do it in another country? We almost never recommend cabbing it. Your travel agent should be able to include transfers to and from the hotel in your package. Some transfers will stop at several other hotels on the way to your hotel, which can be a huge drag after being on a plane for the better part of the day. For a little extra, you can enjoy a non-stop transfer to and from your hotel.

  1. Do I need to tip?

This is probably the question we get asked the most! While tips are included at most all-inclusive resorts, we usually recommend that you bring along some cash for tips. The people at the resorts work a lot of long, hot hours. And with the exchange rates, a little US currency goes a long way in some other destinations. So we always recommend that you bring a little bit to tip the housekeeping staff, room service, bellhop, etc.

  1. Do I have to reserve the beach beds?

This varies greatly by resort. Some resorts do allow you to reserve a beach bed, while others do not. Some resorts charge for beach beds, but most are free.  We’ve even stayed in resorts where the beach beds were on a lottery system. So if a beach bed is important to you ask your travel agent to check with the concierge at the resort.

  1. Are there any upgrades or specials for honeymoon couples?

Yes! However most resorts are going to require some kind of proof that it really is your honeymoon, such as a marriage certificate. Most hotels will extend the honeymoon upgrades or amenities as long as you check in within 90 days of your wedding date. But again, this varies by resort. Some resorts do require that you’re registered as a honeymoon couple either at the time the reservation is made or 30 days before arrival. So check with your travel agent for more info.   Do you have other questions about all-inclusive resorts that we didn’t cover? Ask them here!

I’m Getting Married! What name should I put on my airline ticket?

| July 6th, 2014 | No Comments »

Here’s our honeymoon question of the week:

“This may be a stupid question…

But I’ve never traveled out of the country and so for our Honeymoon, will I put my new married name or my maiden name on the travel documents? I’m thinking married name since we plan on leaving the day after. Maybe I’m just totally over thinking this!”

Whether you’re getting married, divorced, or angry at your record company and want to change your name to a random symbol a la Prince. changing your name is a legal process.

All the friendly folks at the TSA care about is that the name on your passport and your name on your airline ticket match. Your passport most likely has your first name, your middle name, ( spelled out rather than just an initial) and your maiden name. So, your airline ticket should be booked in your maiden name as well.

It also doesn’t matter if you’ve been married for 5 months, or 5 years. If you’re like Bernie, one of our agents, who never got around to changing her passport after she was married, you can continue to travel under your maiden name until your passport expires. Even if your driver’s license has your new name, again, all that matters is that your passport and your airline ticket match.

So remember- your last name doesn’t magically change the minute you get married! So make sure you list your name on your airline ticket the same way it’s listed on your passport.

Preservation Kits Offer An Easy Way To Care For Your Beach Wedding Dress!

| February 23rd, 2014 | No Comments »

Heading to an exotic destination to say your “I do’s” paves the way for some incredible memories for you, your honey and the friends and family you bring along. What better way to celebrate the start of your lives together than to enjoy an incredible adventure?

But, as any destination wedding bride will tell you, there are some serious logistics to contend with to make it all happen without a hitch. One of the biggest concerns for most brides is how to get the dress to the church on time, so to say, and how to get it back home for safekeeping for generations to come.

When it comes to the return journey, David’s Bridal has you covered! Whether you buy your dress from David’s Bridal or not, you can easily pick up one of the company’s preservation kits to ensure your gown makes it home safe and sound after the honeymoon.

Preservation kits are designed to make shipping gowns from destination wedding sites simple and easy. All brides need to do is buy a kit, place the dress back in it after the wedding – or on the morning after – and drop it into the box. David’s Bridal provides the tape and the return address labels. Once that’s done, just give the kit to the concierge at your resort or drop it off at a local David’s Bridal or UPS Store for safe delivery.

After a kit is mailed, David’s Bridal will take care of all the steps required to ensure a gown is preserved for years to come. Within one month of shipping, David’s will send you back your dress cleaned, repaired, if that’s needed, and preserved to last for 30 years. What’s even better is that David’s takes preservation a step further by making sure your dress is displayed in a window box if you don’t want to store it away in a closet or trunk. You can even opt to have personalized monogramming included.

While David’s has the return trip covered, you’ll still need to get your dress to the destination before the ceremony. The easiest (and most stress-free) way of doing this is to bring your dress along as a carry-on item if you’re flying. Check with your airline to see if they have any particular rules for transport.

2013-It was a very good year!

| December 27th, 2013 | No Comments »

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is coming to an end. What an exciting year it was! We had so many things going on at Bliss Honeymoons it was hard to keep up with all the new products and changes. But we couldn’t be happier with the way that the year turned out. Here’s a little bit about what went on behind the scenes here at Bliss.

  1. We booked a lot of Mexico:  And by a lot, I do mean a lot! I’ve always been a huge fan of Mexico-the resorts are amazing, and it’s an exceptional value.  It’s great to see travelers are also realizing that it’s a beautiful, fantastic destination rather than the scary place the media makes it out to be. Most of our Mexico honeymooners said they can’t wait to go back!
  2. We took a lot of great trips: I traveled to the island of St Lucia this year, and was really, really impressed by it. St Lucia consistently wins awards for being the most beautiful, most romantic, most amazing island in the Caribbean, and all of these awards are well deserved. Kyle and Bernie spent a few days checking out some great hotels in Jamaica. And Lindsay got a great introductory tour of Mexico.
  3. We expanded our offerings: Last year we created the Bungalow H20 Collection. This signature collection includes some of the best overwater bungalows, infinity pool suites, and beach bungalows you’ll find. Just in time for 2014, we’ve introduced the Foodie Inclusive Collection, perfect for our foodie clients who want the convenience of an all-inclusive with and a great culinary experience.  Who says you can’t have it all!
  4. We expanded our families: Kyle and his wife Rhea gave birth to baby Alex in July. And Hilary and her husband adopted 3 children all under the age of 6! Hats off to both of them!
  5. We learned a lot! At Bliss we always love a challenge, and many of our clients gave us just that! We sent one bride to a hotel made out of ice, while others wanted Iceland, New Zealand, and many other of your “not so typical” honeymoons.

We’re very excited to see what 2014 has in store for us!

Thank you again to all of our clients, suppliers and partners for all of your support. Happy New Year to all!

P.S. Do you have some ideas about what you’d like to see on our blog in the upcoming year? Please post it on the comments section below!

3 Things You Never Knew You Could Do In Maui

3 Things You Never Knew You Could Do In Maui

While it’s a no-brainer a honeymoon in Maui is going to rank high in the romance department, this Hawaiian island offers more than meets the eye. Vacationers here will find there’s a lot more to enjoy than stunning sunsets, beautiful beaches and friendly locals who know how to make certain honeymooners have the time of their lives.

If you prefer doing things that are a little different while you’re on vacation, you’ll find there are lots of unusual choices in Maui. Here are just three of the many things you probably didn’t know you could do in Maui:

  • Stargaze in style – This island’s beautiful landscapes combine perfectly with the South Pacific night sky to make stargazing a wonder. The best way to enjoy the night time show is to head away from big city lights and just throw down a blanket on the beach. Stare up at the night sky to enjoy a show that’s incredibly romantic. If you want to add an extra special touch, pack a picnic basket and bring along some wine for a late-night toast to your new lives together.
  • Visit Little Beach on a Sunday night – If you’re just a little bit daring, there’s a weekly gathering at Little Beach that takes place each Sunday around sunset. A bonfire, dancing and the sounds of a drum circle pull in visitors from all over the globe. Be warned though: Little Beach is a nude beach and you’re likely to see some folks in the buff during the Sunday night gatherings. On the upside, Little Beach is one of the most pristine on Maui and has some of the best sands around.
  • Go horseback riding – Ever dream of riding horses along a beach as waves gently lap at the sand? Visit Maui and you don’t have to dream any longer. There are lots of stables that provide rentals that you and your honey can choose from. Just get in the saddle to see this island from a whole different perspective. You can also take rides through the forests to explore waterfalls and other incredible sights.

Honeymooners looking for adventure, romance and unusual things to do won’t be disappointed if Maui is the destination of choice. This Hawaiian island offers all the splendor visits expect and a whole lot more that most don’t know about. If a honeymoon in Maui sounds like a plan, just consult with our honeymoon travel experts for advice on making it happen.
