The Best Way to Score Honeymoon Perks & Upgrades

| October 2nd, 2014 | No Comments »

Once you walk down that aisle, say your vows and celebrate with friends and family, chances are you and your honey want to be swept away to a romantic destination to celebrate your first days of wedded bliss together in style. The world’s best resorts make it happen by offering honeymooners all kinds of special touches, but there are some tricks that go along with obtaining the royal treatment at your resort of choice.

If you don’t know how to make sure those honeymoon amenities are part of the package, chances are you won’t get them. So, just what type of special treatment and surprises can you expect on your honeymoon?

Packages for honeymooner can vary from resort to resort, but the best offer some basics that just make checking in and getting comfortable a whole lot more romantic. Special touches, such as chilled champagne or wine, are common. A turndown service that includes laying out flower petals on the bed isn’t out of the ordinary. Neither is being treated to a breakfast in bed courtesy of the resort. Other romantic touches might include couples’ massages, a special outing, welcome gifts, fruit baskets, candlelit dinners for two, late check outs, T-shirts, flower arrangements and so much more.

So, how can you make sure you get the very best? Make sure to follow these honeymoon planning tips:

  • Ask your travel consultant – Most all-inclusive resorts offer special touches as add-ons, but the rules vary greatly by resort. Some resorts even offer different levels of honeymoon packages, but almost all require that you’re in a certain room category, for a select number of nights. Your honeymoon pro will know which rooms will offer you the most bang for your buck.
  • Bring the right documents: Most resorts will require some kind of verification that you’re really on your honeymoon, such as a marriage certificate. And many require that you check in within 30 days of your wedding date. Keep this in mind if you’ve decided to delay your honeymoon due to school or work schedules.
  • If you’ve got a special request – Resort honeymoon amenities don’t necessarily have to be on the menu. If you want to, for example, have your sweetie’s favorite dessert delivered to the room from a local eatery, work with the concierge to make it so. The best resorts will go above and beyond to accommodate requests within reason.

The perfect honeymoon starts with careful planning. Work with your travel advisor to unlock all the resort honeymoon amenities you and your sweetheart think will make your trip even more special.

Fabulous Honeymoon Ideas For Foodies & Picky Eaters

| September 19th, 2014 | No Comments »

Your honeymoon is an adventure that’s meant to create memories to last a lifetime. If you happen to be a foodie and your sweetheart is just plain picky, however, choosing the ideal location can prove quite problematic. While you might enjoy hitting the five-star restaurants of Paris or Rome, your honey would probably be happier eating meat and potatoes at a local diner.

Is there a way to compromise so you both have the time of your life while ensuring you also get to dine in the style you love the most? Absolutely!

Here are just a few ideas that can help ensure you can have your cake and eat it, too, so to say:

  • Go on a cruise – Whether it’s the rivers of Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska or an escape to the Greek isles, cruises are a perfect solution in this type of scenario. Onboard some of the best cruises you’ll find plenty of gourmet eats served up 24/7. Your picky honey will also discover that the constant buffets deliver lots of choices that include plain old meat and potatoes if that’s what is preferred. What is even better is that cruises are inherently romantic and the port of calls in high demand. That means your picky eater will be happy and you can both have the romantic adventure you’ve always dreamed of while still dining in style.
  • Think all-inclusive – Some of the best honeymoon resorts in the world happen to be all-inclusive. That means food and oftentimes drinks go along with the price of the stay. While not always, that also means that dining is available at guests’ whims. When that is the case, your picky eater can dine on dishes that suit while gourmet cuisine worthy of five-star status will be available when it’s desired. All-inclusive resorts are found in just about every major travel destination in the world, too. That means you can plan your dream honeymoon without having to compromise on the destination.

Should you discover that an all-inclusive resort or cruise just doesn’t quite suit your style, there are still options available. Consult your honeymoon travel advisor for ideas on where dine in the location you prefer. Perhaps try picking a great destination for foodie honeymoons and getting a few suggestions for places to dine that offer the best of both worlds.

Sunburn? Stuck in the loo? Here’s some tips for tackling those less glamorous honeymoon issues.

| September 16th, 2014 | No Comments »

Your honeymoon is your first adventure together as a married couple. You want everything from start to finish perfect; seeped with enough romance to last a lifetime. Chances are it will be right up until it’s not.

Face it: Perfection is for scripted romance movies. You and your honey are humans and that means it’s pretty likely a few snafus will arise no matter how hard you try to avoid them. It’s how you handle those little mishaps that determines whether you’ll look back on your honeymoon with stars in your eyes or a preference to forgot the whole thing.

Here are some honeymoon travel tips “they” probably haven’t told you about that can help you avoid (or handle) some of the most common mishaps:

Feeling Soggy

If your honeymoon is taking place in a sunny destination, chances are swimming is on the agenda. That also means you and your sweetie are going to be soggy messes, or at least your bathing suits will be. To avoid the awkwardness that goes with trying to get into suits that just haven’t dried out, be sure to bring at least two. That way one can always be hung out to dry thoroughly while you enjoy the sun and surf in the other.

Sunburns and Dehydration

Noting can sideline romance quite as quickly as a burn or a case of dehydration. Be sure to wear lots of sunscreen (and reapply it frequently). Also, limit time in direct sunlight and consider covering up a bit when you can. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid the blah feeling and fatigue that go along with dehydration. When it comes to sunburns and dehydration, an ounce of prevention is really worth a pound of cure. Plus, you’ll look a whole lot sexier for those romantic nights if you’re not burned from head to toe!

‘Loo’ming Problems

It’s uncomfortable and no one likes to talk about it, but the truth is vacations and digestive issues do seem to go hand-in-hand. Your honeymoon isn’t likely to be an exception to that rule. After all, you’ll probably indulge on some rather rich foods and drinks. Add to that you’re going to be far from the comfort of your own loo and the privacy you’re accustomed to.

So, how can you avoid those uncomfortable, frequent trips to the loo? Exercise a little common sense and do your body and your honey a favor by trying to eat healthy, balanced meals most of the time. Drink lots of water and be sure not to overindulge on new cuisine or overly rich dishes until you’re sure your body will react kindly. All that isn’t to say you shouldn’t have fun or try new things, just take it slow. It’s also a good idea to bring along some digestive aids … just in case.

Follow some commonsense honeymoon travel tips and your time away will be as perfect as it can possibly be. To find out more about booking your dream getaway, just reach out to one of our honeymoon travel advisors for a free consultation.

How To Hide Your Adult Toys From Airport Security

| August 5th, 2014 | No Comments »

If you’re getting ready to head out for your honeymoon or romantic get-away, maybe you’re thinking about bringing something along to spice things up a bit. But, the last thing you want is to have that mortifying moment at airport security when your favorite toy pops up in the x-ray, or even worse, when some overzealous security person whips it out of you bag! So we’ve scoured the internet to find some fantastic travel friendly toys!

Go Incognito: A lot of adult toys were made to look like something else. The ever popular lipstick vibrator looks like a tube of lipstick, and will easily get through security without raising any eyebrows. You can find this along with other discrete toys over at Condommania.com .  If you’re looking for something really different and willing to spend a few extra dollars, the “Make Me Over” offered by Bedroom Kandi looks like a press powder compact and even comes with its’ own charger.

Lingerie:  Girls of all shapes and sizes deserve to look sexy! Lingerie company Adore Me really nails it with affordable lingerie for everyone. Their Beautiful Bride Collection offers something to take you from the engagement party all the way through the big day.  And of course lingerie will easily pass through airport security without anyone thinking anything of it.

Bottle swap: You don’t have to look further than your local drug store to find an interesting assortment of enhancement lubes. You could easily put the contents into a multi-use travel bottle and pass it off as shampoo. Just remember the rule for liquids and gels-3oz or less! Just because security is tight doesn’t mean you can’t bring along something scandalous. Just channel your inner sexy secret agent! If you get creative about how you pack by using some of these suggestions and maybe coming up with some of your own solutions, too, there’s no reason anyone has to have any clue. And, BONUS! You’ll have something new to giggle about in the bedroom!

  El Dorado Casitas Royale
One a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your trip
  10
What was your favorite thing about the trip?
We absolutely loved the El Dorado Casitas Royale- our room, beach, pool, restaurants, and nightly entertainment options were all excellent. We thought the food and drinks were a higher quality and more memorable than the restaurants we have experienced at other all-inclusive resorts. We were also thrilled with our three excursions- exploring the Mayan Ruins (Chichen Itza), scuba diving, and swimming with whale sharks. Swimming with whale sharks was an unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our trip! We would definitely visit Mexico again!
Were there any service issues we should be aware of?
  No

This is the second trip that Laura has helped us plan (she also organized our honeymoon) and both trips were fantastic! She recommended our hotel and we were so happy with her suggestion. Laura was always available to answer any questions which was very helpful. It was also nice to have all of our transportation and excursions arranged before we even left for our anniversary trip. Thanks Laura!!

What’s Included At An All-Inclusive Resort?

| July 13th, 2014 | No Comments »

Our Top All-Inclusive Resort Questions: Over the years we’ve gotten a lot of questions about what is and what isn’t included in an all-inclusive resort. So we’ve put together a great list of our most frequently asked questions and answers!

  1. What’s included in the all-inclusive plan?

All inclusive typically means all your meals, drinks, taxes and tips. Cocktails, beer, and glasses of house wines are included. Bottles of premium wines are usually extra. Most of your better all-inclusive resorts have a lobster night, but may charge for lobster on other nights. Non-motorized water sports are usually also included. So, a kayak would be included, while using a jet ski would carry and additional fee.

  1. How much cash should I bring with me?

You won’t need much cash while staying at an all-inclusive resort. The resort will ask for a credit card upon check-in for incidentals, such as spa treatments. But otherwise you won’t need much cash. We usually recommend about $100.00 for most Caribbean and Mexico resorts. Most destinations do accept US Currency. But if you want local currency you can either order foreign currency from your bank before you go, or find a currency exchange desk at the airport upon arrival.

  1. What is the dress code?

It varies by resort, but most do have a dress code! You can find a great article about it here!

  1. When can I make my spa & restaurant reservations?

Most resorts will not allow you to make restaurant reservations prior to arrival. While we prefer resorts that don’t require restaurant reservations, some resorts will allow you to make all of your restaurant reservations for the week upon arrival. Some resorts will allow you to make spa reservations before you arrive. Check with your travel agent for more info.

  1. Do I need to bring my own beach towels?

We get this question a lot! We have yet to find a resort that doesn’t provide beach towels.

  1. Do I need to bring an electrical converter?

This varies by destination. For most resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, you don’t need one. But we did discover some older resorts in St Lucia that do require a converter. You will definitely need one for Tahiti! We found this great universal converter on Amazon.

  1. How will I get to and from the airport?

You wouldn’t get in a car with a stranger at home, so why would you do it in another country? We almost never recommend cabbing it. Your travel agent should be able to include transfers to and from the hotel in your package. Some transfers will stop at several other hotels on the way to your hotel, which can be a huge drag after being on a plane for the better part of the day. For a little extra, you can enjoy a non-stop transfer to and from your hotel.

  1. Do I need to tip?

This is probably the question we get asked the most! While tips are included at most all-inclusive resorts, we usually recommend that you bring along some cash for tips. The people at the resorts work a lot of long, hot hours. And with the exchange rates, a little US currency goes a long way in some other destinations. So we always recommend that you bring a little bit to tip the housekeeping staff, room service, bellhop, etc.

  1. Do I have to reserve the beach beds?

This varies greatly by resort. Some resorts do allow you to reserve a beach bed, while others do not. Some resorts charge for beach beds, but most are free.  We’ve even stayed in resorts where the beach beds were on a lottery system. So if a beach bed is important to you ask your travel agent to check with the concierge at the resort.

  1. Are there any upgrades or specials for honeymoon couples?

Yes! However most resorts are going to require some kind of proof that it really is your honeymoon, such as a marriage certificate. Most hotels will extend the honeymoon upgrades or amenities as long as you check in within 90 days of your wedding date. But again, this varies by resort. Some resorts do require that you’re registered as a honeymoon couple either at the time the reservation is made or 30 days before arrival. So check with your travel agent for more info.   Do you have other questions about all-inclusive resorts that we didn’t cover? Ask them here!

I’m Getting Married! What name should I put on my airline ticket?

| July 6th, 2014 | No Comments »

Here’s our honeymoon question of the week:

“This may be a stupid question…

But I’ve never traveled out of the country and so for our Honeymoon, will I put my new married name or my maiden name on the travel documents? I’m thinking married name since we plan on leaving the day after. Maybe I’m just totally over thinking this!”

Whether you’re getting married, divorced, or angry at your record company and want to change your name to a random symbol a la Prince. changing your name is a legal process.

All the friendly folks at the TSA care about is that the name on your passport and your name on your airline ticket match. Your passport most likely has your first name, your middle name, ( spelled out rather than just an initial) and your maiden name. So, your airline ticket should be booked in your maiden name as well.

It also doesn’t matter if you’ve been married for 5 months, or 5 years. If you’re like Bernie, one of our agents, who never got around to changing her passport after she was married, you can continue to travel under your maiden name until your passport expires. Even if your driver’s license has your new name, again, all that matters is that your passport and your airline ticket match.

So remember- your last name doesn’t magically change the minute you get married! So make sure you list your name on your airline ticket the same way it’s listed on your passport.
