Experience an Anniversary Like None Other at Sweden’s Icehotel
Hoping to celebrate a special anniversary by taking a trip somewhere completely off the beaten path? If you don’t mind the cold too much, Sweden’s Icehotel might provide the perfect romantic solution. Located in Jukkasjärvi, the Icehotel is a novelty like none other. The hotel is considered the world’s first and biggest made entirely from snow and ice.
Visitors to Icehotel will find the frigid accommodations are crafted by artists on an annual basis and each room and suite is designed with a different theme in mind. The construction process technically takes place year-round for each winter’s debut. Available rooms can vary from year to year and each offers its own distinct charms. One room, for example, was created by an artist to resemble a dragon’s nest. Another suite was created especially to provide optimum viewing of the Northern Lights.
Here’s what guests at the Icehotel can expect:
- Unusual accommodations – As it name suggests, the Icehotel offers travelers highly unique accommodations. While the actual “ice rooms” are quite cold, the hotel also features what it calls “warm accommodations. These are standard hotel rooms and suites, complete with electricity and heat. Warm accommodations are available to visitors year-round, but the cold rooms are only open in the winter time. Hotel staff recommend booking a single night in a cold room followed by a more lengthy stay in warm accommodations.
- On-site dinning – Icehotel features an on-site restaurant and lounge. There’s also an Icebar for those who want to tip a glass in a bar made entirely from ice and snow. The resort also features a laid back eatery called The Old Homestead.
- Excellent service – The staff at Icehotel is available for helping make sure guests have an outstanding time during their stay. In addition to on-site dining, the resort features a variety of seasonal activities including snowmobiling, dogsledding, Northern Light watching, ice sculpting and more during the winter. Summer visitors can still try their hands at ice sculpting and they can also take part in guided tours of the Icehotel, cycling, white water rafting and more.
