• Start planning early. Remember, other grooms out there are booking hotel rooms at resorts across the world too. Nine months ahead of time is a safe bet.

• Think about what she wants. If she can’t swim, don’t take her snorkeling. Do you both love wine and photography? Try Sonoma. Is she a city girl? How about Paris? Identify your common interests and use them as a jumping off point.

• Use food as inspiration. Does she just love Italian food? Is she a vegetarian? You shouldn’t forget about the available dining options at these locations. There’s nothing worse than going hungry on your honeymoon because the resort doesn’t offer anything that fits your taste. Ask about their food options and request a menu!

• Be creative! Throw in something unexpected like a couple’s massage, ride on horseback, cooking class, or visit to a secluded waterfall. Honeymoons are great for relaxing, but sometimes an event scheduled in advance will be the “cherry on top,” that she didn’t even know she wanted!

• Make memories. Honeymoons are about making memories. Don’t forget that everyone will be asking you: “what did you do on your honeymoon?” Be sure to get those extra brownie points and plan a few extra-special twists.
