Many couples dream of a destination wedding in a tropical paradise or a unique part of the world. However, they may assume the cost of a destination wedding puts this option out of reach as a possibility.

Understanding the real cost of a destination wedding is important, as it is often much less expensive than what a couple may anticipate. It is also very likely that the destination wedding is not as expensive as a modest or luxury wedding that is held locally, which is a pleasant surprise for many brides and grooms.

Different Options to Meet Budgets

As with any type of wedding, understanding the budget limits will be essential in selecting the ideal package or optional features. Of course, the price of the wedding and the included services and features will also be a factor of the number of guests in attendance, which is also a variable that the couple can explore during the planning stage.

To help provide a general guideline, here are some approximate price ranges for destination weddings and what couples can expect at those prices.

Free weddings

This may seem too good to be true, but some destination resorts offer free wedding packages when the couple and guests are staying at the resort. These typically include an on-site coordinator, décor of the couple’s choice from the selection as well as a non-denominational Minister. The reception will offer a microphone and speaker system with iPod music. Other factors such as reception bands, floral arrangements, photographers and fees for the wedding license will be at an added cost to the couple.

10 Guests

At under $1500, these basic weddings typically include the on-site coordination, boutonniere and bouquet, a wedding cake, honeymoon suite and possibly a day trip to a spa based on the resort or package selected.

20-40 Guests

These medium sized weddings can range in price from $1500 to $3500 and include all the features of the basic wedding plus a photographer, judge or minister, sparkling wine, semi-private cocktail party and dinner as well as late check-out for the newlyweds.

40 plus Guests

Most of these weddings will start at $3500 with the choices of the couple and the number of guests adding to the price. These will have all the included features of the other wedding packages but will also include videographers, live Mariachi bands, a dance floor and a DJ for the evening.

Keep in mind; there are typically very similar to the costs of these wedding packages and inclusions at a local hotel or wedding reception venue. With this comparison in mind, isn’t a destination really the ideal choice for your special day?
